So I was having a great day in the forest yesterday and then I heard a monkey break a branch. I looked up to see who was causing the commotion just in time to see a piece of the broken branch falling towards me. Part of it hit my eye and it hurt a lot. I flushed out my eye with water and eye drops, but it still hurt on and off all day. This happened at noon so I had to spend the following 6 hours in the field wandering around with one good eye. No one can find anything in my eye so I assume it is just scratched. So today I am wearing an eye bandage over it in the hopes that it will speed up the healing process. And also hoping to start a new trend in Bagaces. But hopefully not end up one-eyed like Rulo. Check it out!
Whitney the pirate?
Looking good, Whhhhhhitney!
ReplyDeleteThough, if you *do* lose the eye, I can't think of anything cooler than a one-eyed dog with a one-eyed mom ;-) Hope you're feeling better!
ReplyDeleteOh no! We should have taken you rock climbing--the first thing they teach you is NOT to look up when you hear a rock falling (or someone yelling about it...). Hope it gets better soon!
ReplyDeleteI finally got around to reading your blog--you're not so far from where my uncle lives; he flies in and out of Liberia sometimes. So fun to hear what you're up to!
Miss you tons!
Yes, well in monkey land we are trained to look up when we hear monkeys fighting in order to see who is doing what. Just my bad luck that they happened to be directly overhead!
ReplyDeleteP.S. My eye has healed and feels much better. Guess Rulo and I won't be twins after all.
ReplyDeleteYou and Rulo not being twins is a very good thing. Just make sure you check your eye thoroughly in a mirror. I once had a scratch on my cornea, appearing as a small white speck in the middle of my pupil, for which I went to an opthalmologist.
ReplyDeleteThe opthalmologist gave me steroid eye drops to speed up the healing process and said that it's important to treat such a scratch because if it isn't and gets infected, you can go blind in one eye.
I don't mean to scare you, but take good care of your eyes. If you notice anything strange, get medical care.
Besides this, hope you're having fun. Watch out for monkeys throwing things at you!
